SCUBA Diving: A Window to Marine Biodiversity

Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala organized a one day lecture come demonstration programme on the theoretical aspects of SCUBA diving titled “ Scuba Diving: A Window to Marine Biodiversity” associated with Bond Ocean Safari Kovalam.

Bond Ocean Safari Kovalam, is an organization partnered with Cool Divers SL, promoting adventure marine tourism and providing training programmes in SCUBA diving and Snorkelling at Kovalam, Kerala. They also provide PADI certified courses on diving.

The lectures led by Mr.Jackson Peter, Managing Director, Bond Ocean Safari Kovalam, Kerala, and Ms. Aneesha Bendict, an enthusiastic marine biologist and professionally trained SCUBA diver who would like to observe the marine life in its own niche. They shared their experiences in SCUBA diving, pointed out the necessity and possibilities of SCUBA diving marine biology research and their concerns in the current trends in Marine ecological research without experiencing the marine life. Mr. Subin J. Kallarikkal, professionally trained scuba diver cum SCUBA diving instructor, demonstrated and explained the SCUBA kit and Buoyancy Compensator Devices (BCD) to the audience.

Dr. A Bijukumar, Head of the Department, welcomed the gathering by highlighting the purpose of the programme and mentioning the importance of SCUBA diving in learning Marine Biology and Mr. Akhil Raj R., First year post-graduate student proposed the Vote of Thanks.
